چکیده

Acid Phosphatase On each of the 500 patients the total plasma acid phosphatase and its formaldehyde stable fraction were estimated, the latter by the method described by Abul Fadl and King (1948), with results as shown in Table II. In this the unit values to the left of the centre dark line are within the normal range whilst those on the right are in the "doubtful " or " prostatic cancer" groups. It will be seen from the lower part of section A that, with the estimation of the total value in those cases without prostatic cancer, 14 gave misleadingly raised results, but by estimating its formaldehyde stable fraction as shown in section B this figure became 8. These findings suggest that the latter test is a more reliable clinical guide in the investigation of "prostatic" conditions, as claimed by Abul Fadl and King (1948). The eight patients who had a raised formaldehyde stable fraction were further investigated and urinary retention was found to have been present in all when the first estimation was made. It will be seen from section C that, when this test was repeated following relief of the retention, its value fell to normal in all but one case. This patient had carcinoma of the bladder infiltrating the prostate and periprostatic tissue and was differentiated from prostatic cancer on both clinical and histological examination Thus, when the formaldehyde stable fraction of the acid phosphatase was estimated on blood taken after urinary retention had been relieved and

Clinical and Pathological Features of Iraqi Patients with Prostate Cancer

Background: The clinical pathological features were detected by measuring the prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) activity according to the stages and grades of prostate cancer. We also explored the relationship between the disease and age with family history among the patients. Methods: Data were collected from direct interview and from the patient’s records. Blood samples that collected before ...

P-10: Effects of Cadmium on Reproductive Enzymes of Blood and Reproductive Tissues in Adult Male Mice

Background: Heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd2+) are natural components of the Earth's crust which can not be degraded or destroyed. Industrial, mining and agricultural activities, particularly the excessive use of phosphate fertilizers, have led to high levels of cadmium contamination at many locations worldwide. Some toxic effects of cadmium are due to its inhibition of various enzyme sys...

Radiosensitivity and Repair Kinetics of Gamma-Irradiated Leukocytes from Sporadic Prostate Cancer Patients and Healthy Individuals Assessed by Alkaline Comet Assay

Background: Impaired DNA repair mechanism is one of the main causes of tumor genesis. Study of intrinsic radiosensitivity of cancer patients in a non-target tissue (e.g. peripheral blood) might show the extent of DNA repair deficiency of cells in affected individuals and might be used a predictor of cancer predisposition. Methods: Initial radiation-induced DNA damage (ratio of Tail DNA/Head DN...

Effect of eight weeks water exercise with Elaeagnus angustifolia supplementation on alkaline phosphatase and calcium serum levels in overweight and obese postmenopausal women

Background and Aims: Nowadays, osteoporosis is increasing, especially in postmenopausal women, due to hormonal changes, including some enzyme factors, such as alkaline phosphatase and blood calcium levels. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of water exercise with Elaeagnus angustifolia supplementation on alkaline phosphatase and calcium serum levels in overw...
